Prevention and Control of Echinococcosis, Aolong in Action-"2017 National Echinococcosis Prevention and Control Technology Seminar" Held in Chengdu

The "2017 National Echinococcosis Prevention and Control Technology Seminar" opened in Chengdu on June 13, 2017. The conference was co-sponsored by the Veterinary Parasitology Branch of the Chinese Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Association and the Medical Parasitology Branch of the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association. Co-organized by the Sichuan Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Association and the Sichuan Animal Disease Prevention and Control Center, and undertaken by China Animal Health Magazine. Beijing Zhongnong Huawei Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. and Chongqing Aolong Biological Products Co., Ltd. provide support. The meeting invited 19 well-known experts and scholars engaged in echinococcosis research to give special reports, and more than 130 domestic scholars and technicians from the epidemic control and disease control systems of seven western provinces attended the meeting to conduct academic exchanges and share the results, so as to further strengthen scientific research and tackle key problems, and strive to make greater breakthroughs in the early diagnosis, drug prevention and control and vaccine research and development of echinococcosis, it provides reference and help for the country to comprehensively promote the prevention and control of echinococcosis and further control the prevalence of echinococcosis in the agricultural and pastoral areas of western China.

Prevention

Professor Wang Ming, College of Veterinary Medicine, China Agricultural University, presided over the opening ceremony.

Prevention

Echinococcosis is a zoonotic disease mainly prevalent in the western region of China, which seriously endangers the health and life safety of human and animals. It is one of the important reasons for the poverty and return of farmers and herdsmen in the western region due to diseases, and also causes serious losses to animal husbandry production. At present, the number of threatened and patients with echinococcosis in China ranks first in the world.

Over the years, China has attached great importance to the prevention and control of echinococcosis and done a lot of work. Since 2015, under the personal care of Chairman Yu Zhengsheng of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, another climax of echinococcosis prevention and control has been set off. The National Medium and Long-term Animal Disease Prevention and Control Plan (2012-2020) )) lists echinococcosis as a priority for the prevention and control of animal diseases. In 2016, 14 ministries and commissions including the National Health and Family Planning Commission, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Public Security also jointly issued the ''Notice on Printing and Distributing the National Hydatid Disease and Other Key Parasitic Disease Prevention and Control Plan (2016-2020))), which once again clarified The goal of prevention and control of echinococcosis. The convening of this meeting is the implementation of the national prevention and control plan.

Prevention

As the main technical means for the prevention and control of echinococcosis, praziquantel chewable tablets (Eprek), a special drug for dog deworming, and genetic engineering subunit vaccine for sheep echinococcosis (echinococcosis), a special vaccine for sheep immunization, are exclusively produced by Beijing Zhongnong Huawei Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. and Chongqing Aolong Biological Products Co., Ltd. respectively. The drug and vaccine provide a strong guarantee for the effective implementation of the prevention and control strategy of "dog deworming and sheep immunity.
